1860s Antique Engraved I Hollis & Sons SXS Shotgun
Here we present an antique Isaac Hollis & Sons Side by Side Double Barrel Percussion Shotgun, made circa 1861 in London, England. At this point in time, the company consisted of Isaac Hollis and his two sons, Henry and Alfred. This shotgun features an engraved barrel rib, with a long section of punch dotting as an anti-glare measure. The locks, trigger guard and ramrod tube are also finely engraved. The locks read “I. HOLLIS & SONS” in a ribbon. This would have been a very nice shotgun for fowl hunting in 19th Century England.
The overall condition is fair to good. The metal surfaces are dark and smooth. The engravings and markings are still clear and legible. The stock has been repaired at the wrist, see photos. The bores are mostly smooth with a little pitting. The barrel lug has become separated from the barrels, and there is some separation happening along the left side of the barrel rib on top. The action is strong. Here is a very nice looking shotgun that make a wonderful project.
