BELGIAN Antique “SCHEPERS” Double Barrel Shotgun
Made Cira 1857 in Liege, Belgium by Francois Schepers
Here we present an antique Double Barrel Percussion Shotgun, made circa 1857 by Francois Schepers in Liege, Belgium. Francois Schepers is known to have been active as a gun maker at least from 1857 to 1860, and seems to have specialized in shotguns. This gun features engraved back action locks, engraved trigger guard, butt plate and ramrod holder. The stock features a straight grip and good, deep checkering.
The underside of the twist barrels is marked “F. SCHEPERS/A LIEGE” with Liege proof marks and various other marks.
The overall condition is good. The metal surfaces bear a deep plum patina. The twist pattern on the barrels is still very good. The markings are clear and legible. The engraving is also very clear. The stock is smooth and solid. The bore is in good shape. The left percussion nipple is absent and the threads are still in good shape. The action is strong. Here is a nice percussion shotgun by a known Belgian maker that would look fantastic on display!
