Description:
The Model 70 Featherweight Deluxe was introduced in 2008. It came with a factory Pachmayr Decelerator pad for the first time and a new improved adjustable trigger. This example has a special floorplate that denotes it as "2008 Model 70 Limited Edition". It is a very attractive rifle with a deluxe American Walnut stock that has fleur-de-lis checkering and a Schnabel forearm. This rifle has the controlled round feeding like the pre-64 models that made this model line famous. It has a long Mauser style extractor and a jeweled bolt left bright. This example chambered in .270 Winchester is used but in excellent-plus condition. The factory high gloss blue finish rates 98 to 99% on the barrel, receiver, rear portion of the bolt, and the floorplate. There are no signs of wear or thinning on any of the blued parts. The silver writing and outline on the floorplate looks sharp and clean. The bore is minty and bright in this rifle. The rifling has sharp lands and grooves and there is no pitting or erosion whatsoever. The trigger guard and magazine housing is alloy and has a black finish that is nearly perfect, with the exception of a few tiny spots on the trigger guard. These could be fixed in minutes with a black paint pen. The factory checkered American Walnut stock is also in excellent condition overall. The checkering still feels sharp and the stock is free from any cracks or repairs. There are some small handling marks/dings that were likely acquired from being jostled in a safe or some other form of storage as it is doubful this rifle was carried afield. The stock features factory sling swivel studs, a black pistol grip cap, and the factory recoil pad mentioned previously. The length of pull is 13.75 inches to the end of the pad. Everything works on this rifle 100% like the day it left the factory. This rifle comes with a Leupold VX-1 3 to 9 power scope with a BDC style reticle mounted up on Redfield bases and rings. The scope is in like-new condition and has crystal clear optics. The windage, elevation, and power adjustments all work 100% perfectly. The lenses are free from scratches and chips and the matte black finish on the scope looks flawless. We believe that this series of Winchester Model 70s are every bit as good as the pre-64 rifles in terms of accuracy and reliability. Winchester went back to the features that made the Model 70 the American "Gold Standard" for bolt action rifles. If you have been looking for the perfect big game rifle that you would be proud to carry in the field this rifle would be an excellent choice. The .270 Winchester chambering gives this rifle the versatility to shoot near or far, and handle just about any big game you can find in North America. The size, weight, and balance point are perfect with this Leupold scope mounted up, and all you need to do is zero it at the range and it'll be ready to go.
