Description:
This 1978 production Colt Detective Special revolver is in excellent all-original condition.  The Detective Special was originally introduced in 1927 and was one of the first snub nose revolvers with a swing out cylinder.  It was produced in several "issues" until 1995 when declining sales of the model forced Colt to end production.  This particular gun is called a "3rd Issue" by Colt collectors today.  This 3rd Issue ran from 1973 to 1986. The "3rd Issue" guns featured a shrouded ejector rod, a full ramped front sight, and new oversize checkered Walnut grips that covered the front grip strap.  This Detective Special has a beautiful factory nickel finish.  Nickel finish is somewhat scarce in this model as the vast majority of these snubbies were blued.  The nickel finish rates a conservative 98%.  There is no chipping of the finish and you have to look extremely close to see any handling marks or the very faint drag line on the cylinder.  The cylinder face and forcing cone are clean and bright.  The bore in this gun is pristine looking.  The rifling has sharp lands and grooves and there is no pitting or erosion.  The cylinder bores are also all minty and bright.  The original factory checkered Walnut grips are in excellent condition as well.  They are free from wear, cracks, or repairs.  The checkering is still sharp and clean.  Everything works on this Colt 100% like the day it left the factory.  The action is "in time" and locks up with no wiggle at full lock.  The action is smooth when worked in single or double action, and the trigger breaks nicely for a gun of this type.  It seems as though this gun has been fired very little if at all since it was test fired at the factory.  If you have been looking for a nickel finish Colt Detective Special that is "collector grade" this would be an excellent choice.  With the way these double action Colts have been appreciating it will almost certainly prove a great investment.
