Description:

CASED Antique MEYERS-COUNE 6mm FLOBERT SS Pistol

Belgian Tip-Up Single Shot Pistol with “F. Butler” Inscription

Here we present a Meyers-Coune Single Shot Tip-Up Pistol in 6mm Flobert, made circa 1910 in Liege, Belgium. This is a beautiful little cased set with a silver, inscribed placard that reads “F. Butler” in nice script. This pistol was made by Henri Meyers-Coune, a gun maker, active in the early part of the 20th Century. It was built for target and recreation, especially for indoor shooting. The Flobert cartridge was quite tame, being a projectile on top of a primer, and was suitable for indoor shooting galleries. This cartridge design originated in France in 1845 by Nicolas Flobert.

The grip frame of this pistol is marked “MEYERS-COUNE”. The bottom of the barrel is marked with several Belgian proofs as well as “FL 6m”. The barrel tips up and activates the ejector and very much reminds one of the Stevens Tip-Ups.

The overall condition is fine. The original blue finish on the barrel is 90%. The case hardening on the frame is still quite good in protected areas. The markings are clear and legible. Serial number is “11” and all numbers match. The grips are in very nice shape with sharp checkering. The bore is sharp and shiny. The action is strong, though the trigger return spring is weak, necessitating a slight forward push on the trigger when cocking the hammer. Here is a very nice, European target pistol in an excellent case!
