Description:
Serial #731630, .38 Special, 6" barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This WW2 revolver has matching numbers on the frame, cylinder, extractor, and barrel with the metal retaining 85-90% of the original blue finish that has faded to gray at the muzzle, along the raised edges and projections, as well as a light turn-ring at the base of the cylinder. The yoke has an area of mottling on the top and is numbered to a different gun. The hammer and trigger have about 75-80% of the bright original color case-hardening remaining with the balance faded to bright gray along the bearing surfaces. A large “C/(Broad Arrow)" Canadian property stamp is present on the on the left side of the frame at the knuckle, and there is an unobtrusive import stamp on the underside of the barrel (not visible with the cylinder locked in place). The checkered, diamond-center, S&W medallion grips are in very good shape with minor wear throughout, as well as minor flattening of the points, and some small impact marks around the butt. The lock-up is still tight and the mechanism functions flawlessly. The revolver is housed in a private purchase brown leather flap holster that has had Sam Browne shoulder belt clips added to the back. The interior of the cover flap has the owner's name (A.E. Wilbur) and unit marked with extensive updates and additions for each promotion and unit transfer. The holster is in excellent condition with only a few minor scuffs and small surface blemishes, although the tabs attaching the spring clips are slightly loose. Also included are facsimiles of Wilbur's extensive WW2 service records in the 9th and 2nd Armored Regiments, 5th Armored Division, Canadian Army; along with his wartime service medals: the War Medal, Defence Medal, and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Overseas Clasp. This is a splendid, identified, Canadian Army handgun, and would make a fine addition to any collection of WW2 British and Commonwealth weapons. FFL or C&R
