This is a VERY nice vintage Auguste Francotte (marketed by Abercrombie and Fitch) Best Sidelock 16G Shotgun. It is in very nice original condition. The gun handles extremely well and is a classic example of this well known Belgian maker.....in the hard to find 16 gauge. Very nice case colors and traditional rose and scroll engraving
The wood is very nice with a leather covered pad and spacer yielding a 14 1/2" LOP. The gun was originally proofed at 2 1/2" and subsequently reproofed by a US gunsmith at 2 3/4". We have the documentation.
There is a slight barrel ding on the left barrel about 3" from the muzzle but it does not show inside. The bores are nice. There is a hand filed concave rib with the Francotte name in gold...very classy!
This firearm is from the Oliver-Brice collection. The principal owned a private equity firm in Switzerland which allowed him to travel extensively in the UK and Europe. His passion was finding and researchin high quality/investment grade British and European double shotguns. His collection is extensive an includes a number of fine firearms like this one.
