Description:
SOLD...REDUCED PRICE...Antique 1876 Winchester 40-60 round barrel.  Here is a pretty nice and completely 100% honest 76 Winchester for the money. It has the standard 28” round barrel. Caliber is in 40-60. S/N 56587 places date of MFG in 1885. From Madis, only 1,823 76's made in this caliber with round barrels.... The bore is good and is shootable. Shows some wear and some minor black powder roughness but no big pits or craters. No rings, breaks in the rifling or bulges.. Hard to find real nice bores in these 76's and most all will show wear and heavy pitting but this one is not bad at all for a 76... The mechanics are excellent. Very tight and very smooth action.. It feeds, fires and ejects perfectly with no issues. Still has very strong carrier and lever springs and main spring are all excellent. Both hammer notches are perfect and positive. Still has both original front and rear sights. Original dust cover that is a little loose but still retracts with the lever throw as designed. Excellent markings. All of the screws are excellent and sharp and nothing is burred up from amateur tinkering. A nice looking gun. The metal has been cleaned long ago and is an aged gray patina with some light cleaning marks but nothing bad. No pitting on the gun but maybe just a small spot in front of the dust cover from black powder flash and is very minor and not worth mentioning. {see photos caliber markings} but I want to be exact in my descriptions. The hammer still shows some case colors on the rear and sides. The wood is very nice on this one. The forearm shows NO splits or cracks. Never sanded or messed with.. Has a small very minor chip on left side in front of the receiver {see photo} and a couple dings all just from honest use but no abuse.. Still fits tight and even and in some places proud to the surrounding metal with no issues.. Has had some old varnish added years ago for protection as many of these ole rifle have had. Does not retract from the gun at all. The butt stock is very nice as well. NO splits or cracks. Fits tight and perfectly even with the metal all around. Never sanded on or messed with. Dings and scratches from honest use but again, no abuse. Shows one small chip on left lower side were lower tang meets the receiver. {see photo lower tang}... Has had varnish added as the forearm has for protection but not sanded on or undersized at all... Pretty darn nice wood on this ole 76.. Actually, in some cases, better wood than a few I have in my personal collection … This is a 100% correct, complete and totally honest 1876 Winchester for the money. Hard to find these that have not been molested by butchers and many show very hard use. A nice respectable 76 for the shooter or collector for well under $3500.. This is the cheapest 76 I have ever offered for sale so don't wait until it is sold to call on it!!!! I get so many calls on these guns AFTER they have sold... Hard to find one of these in this excellent working condition for less.. Shop and compare... Call 765-728-8049 with any questions or more photos. $50 insured shipping.
