Description:
This is as ornate as it gets, the troops of General Sickles Brigade presented this ornate Tiffany gold washed sword to Captian Thomas McCarty, not long after the battle of Gettysburg in October of 1863. This copper scabbard has a set of ornate leafed rings and hangers, with a large U.S. engraved on one . The presentation is clear  PRESENTED TO CAPT. THOMAS McCARTY BY THE MEMBERS OF TROOP CO. C 70TH REGT. N.Y.S.M. OCT.1863. The blade has a large gold washed eagle on ones side and a large U.S. on the other. This is even rarer this Company was raised in PAW PAW , MICHIGAN, and was placed in ths New York regiment . Ihave wite up when McCarty was in the unit , this being one of the top tree hundred fighting units in the civil war, many were lost at Gettysburg, 9 officers and 181 enlisted  killed,2 officers and 62 died of disease , through the war. This would have been a special order from Tiffanys so even though Thomas was a infantry officer , the sword looks more calvary. Call 859-533-5445, there are some dark spots on the blade from age .
