RARE Antique ALL BRASS Maltby Henley & Co Revolver
1890s .32 S&W Revolver w Frame Mounted Safety
Here we present an antique Maltby Henley & Co. Spencer Safety Hammerless Revolver, made circa the 1890s in New York, New York. Only a few thousand are thought to have been produced. In addition to rarity, there are two very interesting features that set this revolver apart from others of its day. One is that the frame is completely made of brass. The other is the frame-mounted safety, just above the grip frame. Engaging the safety locks the trigger completely. This revolver would have been a hideout handgun for self-defense in the closing years of the 19th Century.
The top of the barrel reads “MALTBY HENLEY & CO. NEW YORK U.S.A./PAT. JAN. 24 1888 OCT. 29 1889”.
The overall condition is fair. Traces of the original nickel finish remain with the brass showing a mild patina. The inside of the bore, the muzzle and the breech show verdigris. The markings are clear and legible. The serial numbers match. The left grip is missing a piece. The bore is in good condition. The action is rough. The trigger, internal hammer, firing pin and cylinder are operational. The primary issue is trigger reset. A rare example of a late-19th Century brass revolver!
