WONDERFUL HISTORY IN THIS 1895 .405 WCF CALIBER RIFLE WITH SPECIAL ORDER SHOTGUN BUTT, MADE 1905, WITH BRITISH PROOF MARKS INDICATNG PROBABLE INDIA OR AFRICA ORIGINS! Almost all of the British proofed .405 caliber rifles went to the British Colonies in India for tiger hunting or to Africa for assorted big game hunting, Theodore Roosevelt called his .405 “Lion Medicine” on his famous 1909 safari to Africa. This is a nice, untouched and unfooled with example that shows honest use, but no abuse, the receiver blue has aged naturally to an attractive aged blue/plum with light edge wear; barrel blue is likewise aged and thinned to a fine uncleaned aged blue patina, exc. walnut shows light handling only, forend ebony inlay wedge intact, very tight wood to metal fit, original buckhorn sights, smooth steel shotgun butt plate (much more comfortable to shoot than the standard curved crescent butt plate in heavy recoiling rifles like this one), exc. markings, tight action and excellent bore. Considering where this rifle has been it is really great example from a bygone time never to be repeated!
