Description:
This Winchester M1 Carbine is an early production "1st Block" gun that at some point visited an arsenal for upgrades/rebuild, but managed to stay a "high wood" stock with most of the original parts intact.  The serial number 1,302,027 puts it's date of manufacture sometime in 1943, late in the first block of Winchester carbine production.  The gun has a nice combat issued look to it with an even patina on the parkerizing.  The bore is in excellent condition with no pitting or erosion.  The rifling still looks clean and sharp.  The stock has lots of handling and use marks on it but it is 100% solid.  It is free from cracks or repairs, and the Winchester inspector's cartouche (WRA over GHD) is faint but still visible.  The U.S. Ordnance wheel is partially visible with the left side gone.  While the inside of the pistol grip has a "P" stamped on it denoting U.S. arsenal work, they did not remove the "high wood" and it appears they only replaced the buttplate with a later variation.  The early 2-rivet handguard is nicely marked with a "W" on the underside.  We went thru this carbine and found that almost every part is original with the exception of the following things:  +While the bolt is the proper Winchester flat bolt, it has been parkerized instead of the original blue finish.  +The coil spring is a 26 coil spring, too late for this block.  +The serated safety is technically early for this time of production but could be original. +The barrel band is an WW2 original part but not Winchester.  +The front sight is a milled "N" marked sight without the thumbnail cut often seen on Winchesters, this is likely a replacement.  All of the remaining parts including the barrel appear to be the originals.  The undated barrel is marked with a "W" 4.5 inches from the muzzle.   The rear sight is the correct Type 1 "S" marked flip sight, and the sight base does not show any prior evidence of having an adjustable sight installed.  The op rod and trigger housing is original & correct, as well as the trigger, magazine catch, sear, and hammer.  Everything works on this carbine 100% like the day it left the factory.  This M1 Carbine is a nice combat-used example that while not entirely original, is mostly correct and has a great "even" look to it.  It displays all of the desirable early features of this important U.S. Military weapon and was made by one of the most famous names in American gunmaking, Winchester.  This M1 would be an excellent addition to any WW2 weapons collection, and it has just enough wear to it that it could be shot and enjoyed at the range without feeling too guilty. This carbine comes with a correct "SW" marked Winchester 15 round magazine, an original oiler, and a G.I. sling.
