Description:
This is a nice honest late World War 2 "2nd block" Inland M1A1 Paratrooper Carbine.  At the end of it's service in WW2 it was sent to the Mount Rainier Ordnance Depot and reworked for the Korean War, where it had all of the upgrades installed and any worn parts replaced.  This Inland serial number 6257723, was built in late 1944 in the second block of Inland M1A1 production.  It featured a low wood stock and a "Slim Jim" type pistol grip, which differed from the 1st block guns.  The gun itself had a lot of the late war features when it left the Inland factory.  The round bolt, the "Type 3" barrel band with a bayonet lug, and the adjustable rear sight were factory original.  When the gun was turned in at the end of the war to the Ordnance Depot it received the newer flip type safety and the new mag catch that supported the 30-rd magazine.  The stock was also altered at that time to allow an M2 conversion.  They relieved the stock for the selector switch to the left of the receiver, and removed some wood on the inside of the stock to allow fitment of the disconnector.  The Mount Rainier Ordnance Depot then applied their "MR" stamp on the left side of the stock to show their work was completed.  The condition of this Inland M1A1 is very good overall.  It appears to be the original factory parkerized finish on all of the metal parts except for the bolt, which still retains it's original factory blue finish.  The finish shows a nice even patina and minimal wear for an issued weapon.  The original barrel is dated 10-44, which is correct for the serial number.  It has a bright, clean bore.  The rifling still shows prominent lands and grooves and there is no pitting or erosion visible.  Everything works on this Inland 100% like the day it left the factory.  The stock is also in very good condition overall.  It is free from cracks or repairs, and just shows handling marks and some minor dings you would expect from an issued piece.  The pistol grip still shows some of the U.S. Ordnance Wheel stamped on the right side, and the "RI over a 3" stamped on the bottom is clearly visible with the stock folded.  The "MR" applied to the left side of the stock is also still legible, as is the "IO" stamped in the barrel channel.  All of the metal hardware on the stock is in great shape.  Both the buttstock and the buttplate fold properly and have the proper spring tension.  The whole assembly is nice and tight to the wood.  The only negative on this stock is that the leather cheek pad is missing.  The original rivets are still intact and tight but the leather likely dry-rotted and was removed or fell off.  This could probably be repaired but in the interest of keeping this gun original we believe it looks good "as-is".  This M1A1 comes with an original "KSG" marked 15-round magazine and a 1950's dated "MRT" marked G.I. sling.  If you have been looking for a nice original as-used Inland M1A1 Paratrooper Carbine this would be a great choice.  It is a war horse that almost certainly saw combat in both WW2 AND the Korean War, and has not been tinkered with or "improved" since it left U.S. military service.  These M1A1 Paratrooper Carbines have proven to be excellent investments, and with proper care this one could be shot without hurting it's value.
