Description:
This Webley Model 1909, .9mm, automatic pistole belonged to WORLD WAR I ROYAL FLYING CORP ACE, Robert Arthur Grovenor.  He was CREDITED WITH 16 VICTORIES FLYING THE S.E.5a biplane.  This is a fine pistol RETAINING MOST OF THE ORIGINAL BLUE FINISH.  2Lt. Grovenor, of the 2nd Dragoon Guards (Queen's Bays), transferred to the Royal Flying Corps in 1916 and was POSTED TO 84 SQUADRON in 1917.  Lt. Grovenor WAS AWARDED THE MILITARY CROSS AND BAR TO THE MILITARY CROSS IN 1918, "FOR CONSPICIOUS GALLANTRY AND DEVOTION TO DUTY IN ATTACKING ENEMY AIRCRAFT."  This is a real piece of Royal Flying Corp history which rarely come up for sale.  All historical documents and photos and a copy of the book, "SE 5/5a Aces of World War 1," wherein Lt. Grovenor is listed with photographs, are included in sale.
