Description:
These single shot Stevens Model 44 rifles are very popular with target shooters. Many have been converted to modern rimfire and centerfire cartridges from their original factory chamberings. This rifle has 50% of the factory case colors still visible on the receiver, and 80 to 85% of the original blue finish remaining on the barrel and rolling/falling block. The bore is pretty bright overall and still shows nice rifling, but has some scattered areas of pitting. The American Walnut buttstock and forearm are original and feel sound, but have several small cracks around the tangs and on the right side of the forearm, as well as the initials "D.R.S." carved into the left side of the wrist. Most of the original factory varnish is still present and the stock set has a nice look to it that matches the rifle's patina. This Stevens Model 44 is still in it's original .32 Rimfire caliber and would be a fine shooter if converted to a larger centerfire caliber. The action still works perfectly and locks up nice and tight. Its not often we have one of these early Stevens single shots in the original configuration in perfect working order. This rifle would be a great addition to any antique weapons collection or the perfect starting point for a custom single shot target rifle.
