Description:
SOLD..Antique 2 nd model .38 caliber Smith & Wesson double action revolver with harder to find 5” barrel. Factory letters all correct and shipped in 1882 with 5" barrel and nickel finish. Shipped to Hibbard, Spencer, Bartlett & Co... Here is a very crisp and tight like new 2nd model DA Smith & Wesson revolver. Caliber is in the .38 S&W. Has the harder to find and longer 5” barrel. The S/N 45875 and all matching of course. This model was made between 1880 and 1884... The mechanics are excellent. It locks up crisp and tight as a new gun in both DA and SA mode. No cylinder wobble or front to rear movement. Rock solid barrel to frame fit at the latch and hinge. This gun is tight as new. Hammer safety and full cock notches are perfect.. The gun has a great untouched look to it. Where the nickel has worn off, it shows wonderful untouched dark chocolate brown patina and has never had any attempt to polish out the metal to blend with the nickel finish like so many have been. This is the way they are suppose to look. No pitting on the gun at all anywhere and all the metal is smooth and never messed with. The barrel still retains about 35% original nickel finish. The frame has about 45% or so remaining and the cylinder has about 50%. The hammer has just traces of case color in the protected areas. The trigger has trace also on the flat sides along with some old dried grease. The trigger guard blue has faded to the same patina as the metal as has the barrel latch. Nothing cleaned on or messed with. The markings are excellent and crisp. Front sight never filed on and full size. All the screws are perfect and sharp and look unturned. The grips are very nice with no cracks or chips and a perfect factory fit. The checkering shows some wear and matches condition perfectly to the gun. The bore is excellent and bright with just a few specks of minor roughness. Nothing pitted.. The cylinder chambers are excellent and bright. Just a real nice never messed with little S&W 2nd model. You don't find these 2nd models with the longer barrels as often as you do the later double actions and the single actions as I have had several of those. Nice crisp little gun for the money showing normal use but absolutely no abuse.. $15 insured shipping. Call 765-728-8049 with any questions or more photos.
