GERMAN Antique Percussion Pistol from HILDESHEIM
Single Shot Pistol with Maker Marked Barrel
Here we present an antique German Percussion Belt Pistol, made circa 1840 in Hildesheim by “W. BODE”. Hildesheim is located in Lower Saxony in present day northern Germany. This pistol would have been worn on the belt for self-defense. The lock and trigger guard are neatly engraved. There is a mother of pearl embellishment on the pommel. The top of the barrel is marked “W. BODE. IN. HILDESHEIM.” The trigger is a set trigger.
The overall condition is fair. The metal surfaces are a dark gray. The bottom of the barrel still shows a good twist pattern. The markings are legible. The stock has been repaired around the lock. The bore features sharp rifling and clean surfaces. The hammer has been repaired. The action is strong.
