Here we present a beautiful antique Belgian Colt Brevete Model 1849 Pocket Revolver, made circa the 1850s in Liege, Belgium. Samuel Colt’s Model 1849 was his best-selling percussion revolver, endearing itself to the carrying public by being just the right size for carrying on a daily basis, and providing six shots of .31 caliber ball. Craftsmanship was high, and it came with an attractive cylinder scene of a stagecoach robbery as well! It is no small wonder that Colt moved to patent his invention in multiple countries, including Belgium, and that many makers began copying his design, both licensed and unlicensed. This Belgian 1849 is marked “COLT/BREVETE” on top of the barrel. Its barrel is 5-1/2 inches in length and the cylinder holds six shots of .31 caliber ball. Instead of a stagecoach robbery, the cylinder scene bears a pastoral setting with two dogs chasing a game bird. The hammer features some neat little engraving. The bottom of the loading lever is marked “FW”. The cylinder bears a Liege proof marked with a Crown over “q”. The quality of the craftsmanship is excellent, and certainly does credit to Samuel Colt’s design, whether licensed or not. The overall condition is fine. The barrel retains about 85% of the original blue finish. Markings and cylinder scene are excellent. The serial numbers match. The wood grip is in very nice condition. The bore is very fine. The action is crisp and excellent. The safety pins on the back of the cylinder are still present and in good shape. Here is a scarce and fine example of a European Colt Revolver! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 5-1/2 inches. Caliber: .31 Percussion Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE.
