22-3000 R-MAXIMUM VARMINT RIFLE
Based upon the wonderful BSA Martini small action, this custom .22-3000 features a 26-inch medium heavy weight barrel. The chamber is actually the R-Maximum, or Improved version of the .22-3000 Lovell cartridge with a blown out and sharpened shoulder.
Stocked in fancy black walnut, this rifle is not only accurate, but beautiful as well and will be a real prize in any single shot collection. All indications point to a time somewhere in the late 1950s as the date of creation and, unfortunately, the builder did not sign the rifle, and the barrel, too, is unmarked as to the maker.
The only thing on this rifle that is marked is the splendid J Unertl Optics Company 10-X Varmint scope. It features crystal clear lenses and a fine (1 minute? ) crosshair reticule with the original lens caps. The scope is as much a prize as is the rifle.
This is a package deal that also includes a nickel-plated steel Lyman Tong Tool which is marked .22/3000 that is in superb condition. A neck sizer and bullet seater for the R-Maximum is included. Along with the loading tools come 150 fire-formed Griffin & Howe headstamped cartridge cases and 50+ other cases and three 100-round original and unopened boxes of Sisk .22 Lovell 50-grain soft point bullets.
Weighing in at just a shade under 10 lbs the Maximum has a 13 ¾ LOP from trigger to the dilapidated recoil pad. That is its one detraction, but makes way for your own custom pad. Otherwise, this rifle is a gem.
