Description:
One of America’s sweetheart rifles has been the original Marlin 1894. It’s sleek, slender, lightweight, wonderfully accurate, and handsome indeed. While the modern '94s are nice, the slenderness and styling nuances of the originals have endeared them to us.

This little Marlin 1894 is chambered for the quite useful .32-20 cartridge. While the barrel is marked .32-20 M (Marlin), it’s actually the 32-20 WCF. It seems the rivalry of the day kept Marlin from giving credit where credit was due. Nonetheless, what a great caliber it is.

Our example has a professionally shortened octagon barrel of 17 ½ inches and has been expertly relined which contributes to its fast handling and fine accuracy. Other than for some crosshatch “engraving” on the top flat of the receiver, this rifle has not been “putzed” by any backyard gunsmith. Mechanically, it’s tight and sound as is the wood it wears. There is a coat of “shiny” finish on the forearm, but it does not detract from the overall handsomeness of this Short Rifle.

Apparently, the rifle was originally sold by Barker Gun Works whose mark appears on the top flat of the barrel right behind the original rear sight. While there’s still a lot of blue on the barrel, the receiver has patinated to a pleasing mellow brown.

All in all it is a fine prize that is nice enough to be desirable, but still perfect to shoot and enjoy.
