Description:
SOLD...Antique Colt SAA .45 with factory letter and ivory grips. Here is a nice and HONEST Colt SAA.. S/N 180125 and made in 1898. Factory letter all correct. Shipped to ye ole Simmons Hardware St. Louis, Missouri, October 10th 1898 in 5 gun shipment. Letters as 4 3/4” barrel, 45 caliber, Nickel finish with rubber grips all correct but of course the ivory grips. I have had this gun and carried it for many years and just lettered it last year. I had the one piece ivory grip fit by a very well known grip maker and fitter. They fit perfect like a glove as you can see. They are mastodon ivory and millions of years old. This is a most honest ole Colt. Has just traces of original nickel finish on the hammer and back strap. The balance of the metal is a sort of scaly surface crud look. Looks like it was wrapped up in a old rag for years and is just the way I got it many years ago. The markings are still very good but the S/N on the frame has surface crud on it and makes it look weak.{see photo} The gun has not been cleaned on or messed with and could use a very GENTLE cleaning to remove some of the crud and help out the looks a bit but I am not touching it. The only cleaning it has had has been from being in and out of a holster for many years that I have had it.. There is some very light pitting in places but NOT over the entire gun at all. Just a few small areas.. The pitting is very light pin prick type and nothing deep at all. The trigger guard shows a slight bend to it as you can see in the photos. Looks like it took a hit on the rear bow at some time in its life. Could be straightened back with a blow to the front bow but again, I am not messing with it. Has been this way for many years and it never bothered me a bit. Could have been done intentionally by an earlier owner with large trigger finger !!! Who knows. You can make up the story... It is what it is !! Front sight original and never filed on as so many have been. The action is the best part. It is crisp and tight as a new gun. Perfect timed 4 clicks and in time cylinder locking bolt. Locks up like new.. All hammer notches are perfect, positive and in the correct formation. Much tighter than you find these ole Colts. The bore is very good and shootable bore and shows the normal roughness from black powder. Still shows rifling all the way through with no breaks. Cylinder chambers show some surface crud and would clean to much better.. These Colts were probably the most least accurate large frame cartridge guns on the frontier next to the 1875 Rems. None of them were ever target grade guns. The S&W in .44 Russian were the shooters of the day and the most accurate of them all. The ivory grip are fantastic. Show a little decay on the left side. Just a few age lines. NO splits or cracks and fit like a glove depending on the weather as they tend to expand and shrink with temperature change. Very heavy grips and add weight to the gun for sure. As you can see from the photos, this a most honest Colt SA and nothing has been changed or altered in any way but the grips. VERY hard to find antique Colt SA that have not had something done to them or swapped out parts and or re finish and buffed to death.... This one has survived the parts robbers and butchers.. Not the pretties girl at the dance but a virgin for sure. Nice gun with factory letter and ivory grips for a very reasonable price !!!! I hate to see the ole girl go but I have kept a few guns that came in last year and something has to go!!! I even will throw in a “Buscadero” style black holster and belt that I have no use for. You probably do not either but it is free.. $35 insured shipping. Call 765-728-8049 with any questions or more photos. Don;t miss this one ...
