ENGLISH Antique SMITH LONDON .48 Percussion PISTOL
Box Lock Folding Trigger Single Shot Defense Pistol
Here we present an antique English Box Lock Percussion Pistol, made circa 1840 by Smith of London. This pistol would have fit nicely in a coat pocket. It is a single shot pistol, and has a large, .48 caliber bore with a turn-off barrel. The trigger folds up and into the frame so that it stows nicely. It was the everyman’s weapon of the mid-19th Century in England.
The top of the gun is marked “SMITH/LONDON” and the bottom of the barrel bears English proof marks.
The overall condition is good. The iron parts have a dark patina. The markings are clear. The grips are in good shape. The bore is smooth and dark. The action is functional, though weak. The folding trigger must be manually taken out so that the hammer stays in cocked position.
