This is a Springfield Armory 1896 Krag rifle in .30-40 Krag. The serial number dates to 1899. The action is Very Good with some light freckling mainly on the magazine gate. The barrel is Very Good with a shiny bore. The rear sight, barrel bands, and trigger guard are all Very Good. The stock is Very Good with strong inspector cartouches. The butt plate is the proper one for this model with a trap door for the cleaning kit.
