Description:
Unusual extractor gun made by J.P. Sauer and retailed by Scherping. Full sidelock action, just cleaned and lubed internally, with intercepting sears, bushed strikers, lever-style cocking indicators; marked "H Scherping" in a scroll on one side and "Hannover" on the other. Double underlugs with doll's head third fastener, v. tight, recent rejoint. Triggers, bow, toplever exhibit strong fresh charcoal blue. Recently reblacked bbls marked "Selbstspanner-System J.P. Sauer & Sohn, very pretty, measure 25.5"x2 3/4", show original German nitro 20ga proofs with 16 ga nitro overproofs of the same vintage, and mike .657 each which is about 10 thou under normal 16 ga dimensions, leaving some room for a polish to remove the moderate pitting. Chokes are .005 either side and that could be improved at the same time. Gun weighs 5 1/2 lbs due partially to hollowed buttstock, sound, well-figured, 14 1/2" lop through new 1/2" rubber pad, 1 5/8" and 2 7/8" drops. Checkering worn smooth, normal use marks.
