1892 .44-40 20" ROUND BARREL FACTORY SHORT RIFLE, MADE 1917, short rifles like this were very popular along the southern border and this one came out of Arizona, overall metal surfaces are an uncleaned dark brown with evidence of light scattered rust that has been wiped off without steel wool or scouring, fine markings, flattop buckhorn rear sight with small blade front sight, SPECIAL ORDER SHOTGUN BUTT STOCK with checkered steel butt plate shows normal hard use but is solid, forend is the correct 1" shorter than standard and looks to be a replacement as it is in better condition than the rest of the rifle, tight action, bore surprisingly fine with good rifling and light scattered roughness only, a scarce combination of features in a desirable caliber.
