Description:
Contract U.S. Model 1841 Mississippi Rifle by Remington Dated 1853. This is 1 of 10,000 rifles delivered between 1850-1854 under the Remington Contract. In .58 Caliber with 33” round barrel on full length walnut stock secured by 2 brass barrel bands. Lockplate marked, “REMINGTON’S/HERKIMER/N.Y.” forward of hammer with “U.S./1853” rear of hammer. Brass furniture including brass patchbox with spare nipple inside along with initials carved on outside & inside of lid, possibly, “W.H.B” & possible unit marking. Brass buttplate marked, “U.S.” on tang. Barrel marked at left side of breech with inspector initials, “SM”. Very good condition overall with lockplate showing generous traces of original case colors. Barrel & upper tang are partially bright with some scattered light oxidation. Walnut stock is very good showing a repaired crack running from the recoil bolt to upper tang & some typical scattered use marks throughout. Mechanically sound with lock functioning well.
