Description:
The Colt 1862 Police Model was made from 1861 to 1873 with approximately 28,000 manufactured. The 5 shot revolvers were fitted with either a 3 1/2, 4 1/2, 5 1/2, or 6 1/2 in round barrel with loading lever, half fluted and rebated cylinder, one piece wood grips, blue with case colored frame, lever, and hammer, the grip straps were silver plated over iron (early models) or brass, and were .36 caliber. This early 4-digit serial numbered Pocket Model is fitted with a 5 1/2 inch barrel with silver plated brass tigger guard and back-strap. It is a beautiful example of one of the rare percussion Colt revolvers, since so many of these guns were converted to metallic cartridge. The frame and hammer retain most all of their original color case-hardened finishes, with even thinning overall, and the loading lever retains about 80% of its very bright case color finish. The barrel retains 95% of its original blue finish and the cylinder retains about 85% of its original blue finish. The backstrap and trigger guard retain 85% of their original silver plate. All screw heads are mostly un-molested and the cylinder has all of its safety pins. The bore has strong rifling and the action functions perfectly. The grips retain all of their original finish, with very few handling marks, no cracks or chips. These 1862 Police Models were very sought after due to their larger caliber.
