SERIAL #17 Weimar-Era DWM 1920 LUGER Pistol C&R
Interwar Luger Pistol Made for US Import in Berlin
Here we present a Weimar-era DWM 1920 Luger Pistol, made circa 1920 in Berlin. With the close of World War I and the imposition of the Treaty of Versailles DWM lost its biggest customer, the Imperial German military. In order to stay in business, DWM began making and exporting pistols in earnest.
This is such a pistol, likely imported into the United States around this time period. What is interesting about this pistol is its apparent use of military parts, being that it is very early indeed at #17. The chamber appears to have been wiped of markings and then finished with the rest of the gun. The chamber would almost certainly have born a date. The frame under the barrel is marked “GERMANY”, which is typical of those exported to the United States. The top of the toggle is maker marked “DWM”. All serial numbers match.
The overall condition is near fine. The original blue finish is about 40% with faded straw colors. The serial numbers match. The wooden baseplate on the magazine is unmarked. The grips are in very nice shape. The bore is in fine condition with good rifling. The action is excellent. Here is a fantastic example of the iconic Luger pistol from the interwar years!
