Description:

#4903 Colt 1851 Navy revolver, 3rd Variation, 78XXX (1858), U.S. marked and issuance to arm the Northern Armies during the pre-Civil War years, fine tight action but the bore shows a lot of wear. It does have distinct rifling and mainly just moderate leading and pitting in the grooves, but the lands are worn down at least 60%. The exterior is a relatively smooth even plum-brown patina with the usual darker patina on the cylinder from extensive cleanings during its lifetime …and consequently little or no visible scene remains. It does have spots of blotchy rag pitting and the frame has scattered light to moderate freckling over much of the frame area. The grips are about “VG” with a nip on the right toe and no cartouches visible due to wear. Wedge is a modern replacement and does need a proper aging to match the gun. Overall, this is a slightly better-than-average ’51-Navy and very desirable in being martially marked! VG $2250.
