Description:
#4838 Sharps 1859/63 New Model Carbine, post-Civil War 50/70 conversion with original percussion six-groove 52cal barrel being sleeved with the 50/70 three groove barrel for use in the Indian Campaigns. Bore is about a 6 that should clean to a 7 and it has a tight action. The buttstock has some serious wrist cracks that have been frontier repaired to be reasonably solid, as well as numerous s and bruises over the rest of the stock and forestock. Basically it just has “passable” wood with no inspectors acceptance cartouche remaining on the center of the stock left side. The metal has almost no pitting to most of the surface area, the saddle ring and bar have been removed, and the markings are all clearly visible on the frame but about gone on the barrel, and it is missing the serial number on the tang. The rear sight is missing the ladder portion, the Lawrence Patent marked base is intact. About Good to Good+ as described, but could easily be upgraded to VG with a better used stock, a replaced saddle bar, and the sight ladder, the last two items being available on-line. Sure does show years of frontier use and some abuse. $1425
