The carbine has a half stock in walnut with sling ring bar, tool compartment behind the metal butt plate, which is stamped on top with US, and a single barrel band that is grooved at the top for the sight leaf to rest. The top of the trapdoor is stamped "U.S./MODEL/1873". Metal Condition: There is some blue remaining in protected areas otherwise the finish has turned to aged patina. Wood Condition: There are three old screw holes at the top of the wrist, appears that someone long-ago mounted a tang elevated sight. There is a short 1" crack on the left side next to the sling ring bar mount. There are no other cracks but there are scratches, dings and chips. There are no cartouches or stamps in the wood. Fair bore with distinct lands and grooves, and some good shine though it is frosted with some minor surface pitting. There are no deep pits whatsoever. 1886-1889 - S# 447405.
