Description:
#4934 Winchester 1886 OBFMCB 40/82WCF serial range in the 105XXX (1896), Fine bore and action (about a 8+ on a scale of 10) with no bad spots at all, and having sharp rifling and a bright shine the full length of the bore . Decent wood, but having a chip at the upper right tang and a small sliver on the upper left tang, and a small crack at the front of the comb. The wood has a tight fit to the metal and some good traces of orig varnish remaining. Fine crisp metal, no pitting, and a pale grey-brown over most of the barrel, magazine mixing with a soft plumming blue on the lower barrel flats, and just a mottled grey on the frame. The 40/82WCF cartridge is a very accurate and hard hitting round, being a larger powder charge pushing a lighter bullet and thus a flatter trajectory ..and it is powerful enough to knock down most big game in the North America. While it does pack a pretty good recoil compared to its little brother, the 40/65WCF, it certainly has a longer range. Brass can be formed from 45-Basic, or easily purchased on line from many of the obsolete caliber sellers. Definitely nicer than the majority of ‘86s found at regional gun shows at a similar price.
