Description:
This Remington XP100 "Varmint Special" is in excellent original condition, and is as complete as you will ever find.  This XP100 is a scarce find in .223 Remington caliber with the original box, insert, and manual.  Most of these XP100s we have encountered over the years are chambered in .221 Fireball and have the 10.5 inch barrel.  The Varmint Special model of the XP100 featured many of the original XP100 features, but differed in that it has a plain 14.5 inch barrel with no provisions for iron sights.  This model was introduced in 1986 and was the first XP100 variation chambered in .223 Remington caliber.  This example is serial number B7531278 and the date code on the barrel is "RJ" (which is hard to read, partial J stamp), which means it's date of manufacture is November of 1989.  This XP100 is in minty clean condition.  It has apparently been shot very little and very well cared for.  The original factory gloss blue finish rates 98% plus, with no scratches or marring of the finish.  The only place on this pistol I could find a deduction in the blue finish was on the flat underside of the ribbed bolt knob, where you could maybe argue the ridges show a little thinning of the blue.  The 14.5 inch barrel has a minty and bright bore.  The rifling still shows sharp lands and grooves that look new, and there is zero pitting or erosion present.  The original factory brown Zytel stock is also in excellent condition.  Only under very close inspection can very minor handling marks be seen, with the majority of these on the bottom of the black plastic triggerguard.  There are no cracks, gouges, or repairs on this stock, and it still has a glossy beautiful appearance.  The diamond shaped white stock inlays on either side of the forearm and the bottom of the pistol grip are perfectly fit and still nice and tight in the stock.  The forearm mounted sling swivel stud is still in perfect alignment and shows just a little evidence of being used.  The bolt action of this pistol is smooth and tight.  The trigger is excellent and breaks cleanly.  Everything works on this pistol 100% like the day it left the Remington factory.  This XP100 Varmint Special comes with a nice "extended eye relief" Burris variable 3 to 9 power pistol scope mounted up on Redfield rings and a Redfield Base.  The scope is in excellent shape with crystal clear optics and a duplex style reticle.  Both the windage and elevation adjustments work perfectly and the glass is free from cracks or scratches.  This scope has an adjustable objective lens, and both the magnification power ring and the objective focus ring work perfectly and turn smoothly.  As we mentioned in the title, this pistol package comes with the original packaging for both the pistol and the scope.  The pistol's packaging includes the original box with the factory serial numbered label, the cardboard insert inside, the owner's manual, and the factory brown zipper case.  The scope comes with the original box and styrofoam inserts but no owner's manual.  If you have been looking for a .223 caliber Remington XP100 to add to your collection, this Varmint Special model would be nearly impossible to improve upon.  It is not often we have had the chance to sell one of these collectible pistols, and no one here can recall ever having one any better then this one since the late 80's or early 90's!
