U.S. PROPERTY Marked COLT 1911 Pistol from 1918
WWI-era Inspector Marked 1911 Government Model
Here we present a Colt Model of 1911 U.S. Army Pistol, made in 1918 in Hartford, Connecticut. John Moses Browning’s famous pistol was adopted by the U.S. government in 1911 and attained iconic status throughout both World Wars, Korea, Vietnam and beyond.
This one was made in the last year of the Great War. It is marked “UNITED STATES PROPERTY” on the left side of the frame. Also on the left side of the frame behind the trigger is the “Eagle/12” government inspector mark. A “12” is marked on the left side of the trigger guard. The right side of the slide is marked “COLT’S MFG. CO. HARTFORD CT. U.S.A.” The serial number dates the gun to 1918. The left side of the slide is marked “GOVERNMENT/MODEL/COLT/AUTOMATIC/CALIBER .45” with a rampant colt just forward of the side serrations.
The overall condition is fine, having been refurbished. The blue finish is about 90%. Markings are clear. The grips are in very good shape with some handling marks. The bore is bright with sharp rifling. The action is excellent. Here is a great, government inspected Colt 1911!
