Description:
This is a very nice example of a Marlin new Model 39 take down .22 lever action rifle produced between 1922 and 1936. This rifle has a very nice patina with approximately 90% of the barrel bluing remaining. There are traces of the case coloring on the receiver but it has faded over the years. The stock finish appears to be original with typical small dents for a rifle this age. It does not have any visible cracks in it. This rifle is equipped with the factory "Marble" white ivory front beaded sight and the flat top Rocky Mountain rear sight. The magazine tube is the model 1897/97 type tube latch instead of the button type which according to the Marlin Firearms book by Col. Brophy maybe due to the use of existing inventory during mfg. before changing to the button type. The butt plate is the original unbreakable fiber material with seven groups of four horizontal lines. The top tang is drilled and tapped for tang sights but does not have the "star" inspector's stamp. This rifle is equipped with the improved bolt to handle high speed .22 ammo. The serial number is correct with the "HS" prefix and is a low four digit number indicating a 1932 mfg. date. Please examine my photos and send any questions via email.
