Description:

The U.S. Civil War is a fascinating time in our history for arms collectors because of the wide variety of weapons and accessories used. Both sides fighting men were issued the same basic items to fulfill their specified task. With infantry, cavalry, artillery, and staff each having their own unique equipment, the U.S. Civil War had a wide variety of items that each side had to stock the troops with, making it a very attractive field for the collector. In this U.S. Civil War starter kit we have compiled some of the basic items that would have been issued to an infantry soldier:

1. Savage Arms model 1863 .58 caliber contract percussion rifle-musket in good condition overall. Made by Savage Revolving Fire Arms Company of Middletown, Connecticut. The barrel has a gray patina overall. Lockplate is dated 1863 and marked “Eagle / U.S.” and “SAVAGE R. F. A. Co / MIDDLETOWN. CON.” Government proof marks “V / P / eagle head” are worn but visible on the left facet.

2. M1855 Bayonet with Scabbard. Blade is in very-good condition with “J” on ricasso and minor pitting. Lock-ring turns and is tight. Seven Rivet Scabbard is in very good condition.

3. M1864 Cartridge Box with original tins. The “US” is strong and visible on front. Leather straps are in excellent condition with brass lock horn strap tight.

4. “Gettysburg 1863” book by Carl Smith published in 1998.
