These were issued aboard Japanese warships, so many now rest on the bottom of the sea. Japanese “Marines” fought Americans with Type I rifles on Okinawa, Kwajalein, Peleliu, Burma, and the Phillipines. Much of the hardware on this rifle is the same or similar to that on standard Japanese Arisaka rifles and it uses the standard Japanese type-30 bayonets. The buttstock came in two different lengths. In WWII, the average Japanese soldier was quite short (5’ 4”), so a shorter “length of pull” was required. This particular rifle has the longer stock, as many of the Special Naval Landing Force Units were comprised of soldiers of larger statue. In addition, Italian hard wood was used and the stock is much heavier than the Japanese made Arisaka stocks. This particular rifle is in excellent condition , with "Bring Back" art work on the stock. It has a good bore. The rifle appears all-original and free of pitting or other defects. These rifles were built in Trompia and Brescia, Italy, as well as at the Beretta factory for the Japanese.
