Description:
Offered is a pre war Colt Officers Model SN 161XX in 22 LR that has had a RARE custom conversion that is similar to a COLTS KING SUPER Conversion by Kings Gun Works in San Francisco in this time period. I would say it was a Kings conversion except the vent rib is not so marked by Kings. The Kings was the only known to me maker of this style of vent rib in the mid 30's? The hammer, trigger and main spring have all been jeweled, an action job done, and has custom target grips. The revolver is inscribed professionally on the left side "M L. EASTEP, Pittsburgh, PA 1936 Mr Marion L Eastep was an accomplished target shooter who won a BRONZE MEDAL at the New York National matches in 1937 from "The Results For The New York National Guard Shooting Matches" pg 147. Further many of the National Rifleman magazines of the 1930's mentioned and pictured Mr Eastep in them. These King Super Style conversions are hard to come by in any caliber, with the 22 LR being extrememly hard to find, as in nearly 40 years of collecting I have only seen 5 22LR's including this one. These are a dream to shoot and are the predecessors of the Colt Python and Diamond Backs which were developed by Colt in the 1950's to capitalize on the King's popularity among target shooters. This Colt shows some wear as the pictures indicate, is mechanically solid with the cylinder yoke having virtually no play in any closed postion. This revolver should be a tack driver and a fine represenative of a golden age in American target shooting.. The hammer in SA is the normal Colt long throw.
