This is a Trapdoor Springfield 1873 carbine in .45-70. The serial number dates to 1874. The serial number is in the correct range, and the stock and barrel appear correct for a carbine. The Rear sight is an obvious replacement from an 1873 rifle instead of the carbine. The rear tang on the action is cracked crosswise at the screw. Metal is in Poor condition showing heavy use. The bore is pitted with visible rifling. The stock is in Fair condition.
