This is a super deal on a Scottish sidelock featuring high condition, great wood, barrels, and stock dimensions great for many. *Note that we could pull the wood butt plate and install a leather covered pad to make this fine shotgun up to a 15" LOP. Nigel Browns definitive series of books on British, Irish, and Scottish guns "British Gunmakers" mentions on page 159 of volume III that James McCririck opened shop in 1839 and in 1904 split to two shops Ayr, and Kilmarnok. He goes on to state that the Ayr shop was closed at the beginning of WW I , July of 1914. Our gun was thus built somewhere between those two dates as the rib shows both address’s . Edwardian period guns! You may have not have heard of this fine gunmaker but they built stunning quality guns. I was very interested to learn they were in business for so long, starting in 1839 and the Kilmarnock shop only closing in 1992, in business 153 years! *** Note: To see this gun with high resolution photos and a zoom-in feature, go to the vintagedoubles main site and search for the gun ID: 3384 or browse the main site to see our full gun collection. |
