This Smith - Corona has veen sold! This Smith - Corona M1903A3 , Ser No. 4760554, Mfg abt "Aug '43. has all matching numbers and stands out as the better quality
03's mad to date. The machining detail is suberb w/alll parts having no burrs. The bluing is 100% w/none of the metal being scuffed or =any evidence of any "Rack Wear". The action is excellent w/a nice smooth fitting bolt. The bolt has the correct "X" on the top of the bolt & 7 and a punch mark on the underside, also the extractor has the correct "S" on the underside
The top & front of the barrel has the Flaming Bomb "w/Aug 1943" imprinted on it. The front sight ia a type 2 w/the correct wrap around cover. The bore is a mirror and perfect. Measurments = throat 1 1/2 - 2 and Bore "0"
The stock has been refubished quite some time back and very professionally done. It's quite possible that because of the Excellent overal condition this may have been a "Special Smith" - Corona factory custom for an some management or General Officer's staff personnel. There are no visible Cartouches on the stock.
Also to note that both IBM and Smith-Corona didn't have logged anywhere the some level of manufacturing and quality control
issues as did Springfield - Barrel, Ammo & poor fitting of production parts. Could it have been that these people were used to mfg
small ot medium size parts.
There are no Arsenal Rebuilding markings anywhere.
