Description:
***   SOLD   ***Handsome and great handling best quality Boss sidelock non-ejector No. 4309. Completed in 1894 for Captain W.R. Testing of the Royal Irish Fusiliers this Boss game gun reflects the new aesthetics and mechanical innovations instituted by John Robertson when he took over the company in 1891 including a racier looking action and the new style of Sumner engraving. Stocked in a nicely figured piece of English walnut with a leather recoil pad. Overall weight is 6lb 12oz. Tight on face and in excellent mechanical condition.  ***   The Joseph Whitworth nitro steel 30” barrels have extractors for trouble-free shooting and are chambered for 2-1/2” cartridges. They are topped by a raised, solid concave game style rib. Barrels are marked “Boss & Co  73 St. James’s Street, London.” The right barrel is bored 0.733 with a constriction of 0.011 for Improved Cylinder choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.029. The left barrel is bored 0.736 and has a constriction of 0.021 for Modified choke. Minimum wall thickness is also 0.029. London nitro proof for 1-1/8 oz cartridges   ***   The straight hand stock and splinter forearm are made from nicely figured walnut. The finish is in great condition and the checkering is crisp. There are a few handling marks on the stock and the leather pad shows some wear. Stock dimensions are 14-5/8” over a 1” brown leather pad by 1-3/8” by 2”. Cast off for the righthand shot.   ***   A rare opportunity to own a Boss in wonderful condition at a great price.  Don’t let it get away !.  ***   Buyer is responsible for all shipping, insurance, and any other related charges. I give a 3-day non-firing inspection period and will only accept returns at buyer’s expense if the gun is not as described in the listing.
