Description:
This pre-64 Winchester Model 1894 30-30 carbine has a great look to it.  Manufactured sometime during WW2 when Winchester was making very few commercial guns because of military contracts, this Model 94 has survived in very good condition overall.  It certainly was used and carried, but was also well cared for and not abused.  It is unique in that it has a brand in the shape of a "B" on the right side of the buttstock.  This is almost certainly a ranch's cattle brand, but could also be the first or last initial of a previous owner.  The original factory blue finish shows some carry wear on the receiver, mainly at the balance point on the bottom and high edges.  The upper tang and upper inside edge of the lever also show some light wear to the finish.  The barrel, flat-style band, and magazine tube show a nice dark original blue, with some small spots of discoloring from light surface rust that is long gone.  The bore is in excellent condition.  The rifling still shows sharp lands and grooves, and the bore is free from pitting or erosion of any kind.  The magazine tube is held in place with a flat band rather than the common rounded variation.  There were only approximately 60,000 carbines made with this flat style band.  The original front and rear sights are in great shape minus the front sight hood, and the rear sight still has the original elevator in place.  The original factory American Walnut stock set is in good condition as well.  Both the forearm and buttstock are 100% solid and show no cracks or repairs.  The original varnish is worn in places and there are some very minor handling marks, but the stock set matches the rest of the gun nicely and has an attractive honest appearance.  The original checkered & blued steel buttplate is still in place and is in great shape and tight to the wood.  As mentioned previously, the right side of the buttstock has a "B" branded into it towards the rear.  It's too bad we do not know exactly what it stands for but it certainly adds some character and intrigue to the carbine.  Everything on this Winchester 94 works 100% like the day it left the factory.  The lever action works smoothly and locks up tight with no play in the bolt.  The hammer still has both the safety notch and full cock, and the trigger breaks cleanly without being too heavy.  This Winchester certainly exhibits the fine fit and finish that pre-64 Winchesters are known for.  If you have been looking for a unique and handsome all-original pre-64 Model 94 to add to your collection, this cattle branded example is it!  This gun would make a great display piece, and could also be enjoyed at the range without harming it's collectible value as long as reasonable care is taken.
