Description:

UNIQUE WWI-Era BAYARD 1908 “Mouse” Pistol .32 ACP

Pieper Bayard Made in Herstal, Belgium Circa 1914

Here we present a Pieper Bayard Model 1908 Pocket Pistol, made circa 1914 in Herstal, Belgium. This pistol was made as a compact self-defense tool to be carried in a pocket in the early 20th Century, the golden age of “mouse guns”. What sets this pistol apart from others is the unique method by which the weapon is field stripped. Simply slide the front sight back and pivot up to remove the recoil spring and guide. As a side benefit, the spring and guide being above the barrel results in a very low bore axis.

Bayard was the name of legendary bay horse of Charlemagne and was used by the Pieper company as a trademark. The knighted horse is stamped into the left side of the frame. The left side of the frame reads “*ANCIENS ETABLISSEMENTS PIEPER*”/”*HERSTAL-BELGIUM*”. The left side of the slide is marked “*CAL. 7.65 MODELE DEPOSE*”. The safety is also located on the left side of the frame. The grips are made of horn and are each marked “BAYARD”. The right side of the frame and slide are each marked with many Belgian proof marks.

The overall condition is very fine. The original blue finish is about 95%. The markings are clear. The horn grips are in very good condition. The bore is sharp and clean. The action is excellent. Here is a fantastic example of the Pieper Bayard Model 1908!
