Lock is marked “Ashmore”. No other markings except initials in script with flourishes. This gun was unquestionably owned by a Freemason: The beautifully figured stock has silver inlays of Masonic symbols such as the compass, the square, the trowel, the shovel, the mallet and others. Barrel length is 31 ½”, overall length is 47”. Gun has adjustable set trigger. Original checkering is excellent. Brass parts (lower butt strap) has engraved floral motif. This is an impressive rifle and virtually every silver inlay in the buttstock is Masonic symbolism. A handsome rifle! Probably made in the 1840’s or 1850’s. SOLD Antique: Yes |
