Mauser C-96 Red Nine. Cal. 9mm Mauser, Ser. 1236XX.
What a beauty this rig is. The pistol is a Wartime/Commercial that the German government bought from a WW veteran in the 1920 as part of a buy-back program. The condition is outstanding, retaining at least 97-98% of the military blue finish. The loss is contained to just some slight muzzle wear, sharp edge silvering. and a few scattered pin pricks. There are no rust spots, rub marks, or scratches.
All numbers match. The hammer is stamped NS for New Safety, which is also correct. The striated Red Nine grips appear to have been painted black at some time during the military service and are correct for the gun. The side of the barrel is stamped with the 1920 recall date, and a Circle/Script S, the left side a horizontal Crown/U proof and Germany in tiny letters.
The records show that most Red Nines were grip numbered in the field by army orders. These grips are in perfect condition and are also numbered to the gun. Not a chip crack or ding on either panel. The bore, like the rest of the gun, is mirror bright with razor sharp rifling. A remarkable example of the very scarce "Red Nine". An outstanding example of the coveted Prussian contract…… $3495
The gun is shown with a correct non matching wooden holster stock that is in super condition. No chips or splits anywhere. The lid is stamped D F 41... It is available with the gun for $795. or separately for $895.
