Description:
This offer is for a fine condition American flintlock musket of the Revolutionary War period with a painted stock.  My attribution to the 1770 decade can be read below....

The wood is all original to the gun, which has a 44" barrel in .69 caliber that has neither been stretched nor cut.  There is no particular pattern to the stock painting that I can recognize.  An escutcheon is missing from the wrist, which should be apparent in the photographs.

The lock is an import lock, almost certainly French.  Based upon the three letters "Dun" which appear on the lock followed by a few which cannot be discerned, and my research in Eugene Heer's Der Neue Stockel, I would attribute the lock manufacturer to be Claude Etienne Dunand.

Heer approximates that Dunand worked in Strasbourg, France from roughly 1773 to 1808 (Volume 1, p. 317).  Based upon Heer's exhaustive volumes on arms makers and their marks, Dunand is the only arms maker who logically fits both the period and place of the lock's manufacture.
