The photos show the craftsmanship that went into the external hammers. The detail in the gold figures on both sides of the action is still very much intact and exceptional for a gun that is over 100 years old. The 25 1/2" Gusstahl barrels measure 41 ca. with a 48mm straight taper case. My copy of Cartridges of the World doesn't specifially list this cartridge but it is typical of the calibers for German double rifles at the start of the twentieth century. The full length rib has a notched rear sight with an extra flip up leaf though the delicate front bead appears to have been broken off. The barrels retain a nice brown patina. The buttstock has truly beautiful figure to it and measures 14" LOP over a horn buttplate which looks to have been added to the rifle. The stock also features very nice workmanship in the carving behind the action. The action also features double set triggers and a very nifty flip up peep sight on the tang. This double is a fine example of the quality and craftsmanship that existed in Germany and the turn of the century. This rifle has been a part of my collection for many years and is being offered for sale along with several other high quality guns, so please take a look at my other listings for some nice examples of the German gunmaking trade.
