Drum type percussion conversion with a civilian hammer is the method used extensively by the Confederacy early in the Civil War, possibly by Baker, of Fayetteville.. Metal is smooth with scattered pitting and has been cleaned by hand a long while ago. Wood is figured walnut and has an old coat of varnish.
