Description:
SOLD...Antique Smith & Wesson 1 ½ 2nd Model Blue. Here is a well above average Smith & Wesson 1 ½ 2nd model with blue finish. Standard 3 1/2” barrel and in the .32 caliber rim fire. S/N 100370. All matching assembly numbers of course. Very nice little Smith with very generous amounts of blue remaining as you can see. The barrel has nice traces in the upper and lower barrel flutes on both sides. Also some blue under the ejector rod on the bottom. The cylinder shows just traces of thinning blue in the flutes only. The frame has the most blue as you can see in the photos. It is bright blue but is slightly thinning but still has that great untouched look to it. I took the photos in bright sun light to show the condition of the finish. Some blue also remains on the top of the frame and down around the hammer on both sides. The balance of the metal is a smooth untouched medium brown patina. There are no pits or dings. The markings are excellent. The hammer shows some bright vivid case colors on both sides and all the bright case colors remain on the back of hammer where protected. The mechanics on this little gun are absolutely crisp and tight as a new gun. There is NO wobble at the barrel hinge and the barrel to frame fit at the latch is rock solid like new also. There is also NO side to side or front to rear movement on the cylinder. This gun is as tight as the day it left the factory PERIOD... Most all of these model 1 1/2's and all other S&W tip ups are very loose at the hinge and have terrible cylinder wobble with loose lock up and are still priced in this range.. This is not the case here and this gun has NO mechanical issues anywhere what so ever... The bore is very good with strong rifling and shows some minor black powder roughness as can be expected. The cylinder chambers have some minor roughness as well but neither one would effect the shooting of this gun if you wish to do so... NO safe, black powder ammo is being made for these guns anyway... The grips are excellent with NO splits, cracks or repairs. They are matching and a perfect factory fit. They still retain most of the original varnish with a little varnish wear at the bottom. Very nice grips. That is about all I can say on this one. The photos tell the story very well. You will find nice nickel plated versions of this model quite a bit but the blued ones with finish remaining are a little more scarce AND unless you find one that is mint like new, you won't find one as tight as this one and not near this reasonably priced.
